Since 1965, Central Community House had operated from a house located at 1251 Bryden Road. Neither the main facility nor the
child daycare program, located several blocks away in the Blackburn Recreation Center could satisfy program
requirements for space. As a multi-service neighborhood center, we needed additional space for childcare, senior activities,
youth and family programs, support groups and community organizations.
With this vision in mind, Central Community House launched a Capital Campaign to raise $2.8 million to construct a 16,500 square
foot building at 1150 East Main Street. To date, we have received commitments totaling over $2.7 million. Turner Construction Special
Projects was chosen as the contractor and the new facility was completed in April 2005.
A new, larger facility has enabled us to increase our daily after school program capacity by 40% and our child daycare program
by 45% and to bring all of our programs and administrative offices under one roof. We also have enough space to add childcare
for infants and toddlers. The new building also allows us to expand our employment services and trainings and contains a
computer lab for both youth and adults.
Our new facility is co-located on the same site as the new East Central Family Health Center. This is an exciting collaboration because it
represents the coming together of two vital areas of need affecting this community and its residents -
neighborhood services and health care. Please stop by and experience what we have to offer!
