"It takes
an entire village to raise a single child." We know that strong
families lead to strong communities and that each and every family
needs support in ensuring that their children grow up with confidence
and are able to accept the challenges they face.
Our youth and family services program celebrates the wonder of
childhood and provides a safe, secure, and supportive environment that
fosters developmental and academic growth. This environment allows the
youth we serve the freedom to explore the world around them with the
knowledge that supportive family and other caring adults are traveling
this journey with them.
In each of our programs we challenge and encourage the youth and their
families to put forth their best effort. We believe this effort will
reinforce personal and family values that support families, as they
become more self sufficient. We provide opportunities for all of our
youth to participate in cultural and healthy physical activities as
part of our ongoing programming. Further, we encourage each family
member to participate in the myriad of projects, meetings and community
activities that are held monthly. We truly believe that each and every
child that comes to us will feel supported and raised by the "village"
of Central Community House.
After
School Program:
The sounds
of young people actively engaged in recreational and learning
experiences can be heard daily in our after school program. This
program is uniquely designed for youth in grades one through eight. The
after school program is structured to bring new and exciting challenges
to our youth each and every day. Our programming engages the children
in arts & crafts that cultivate their creative skills; in
cooperative learning activities that help them to interact positively
with their peers; and a variety of healthy physical activities. Each
day, our youth can be found working with Youth Leaders or volunteers to
enhance their academic success. Homework assistance is provided daily
to our youth, and specialized tutoring is offered twice weekly by the
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Volunteers.
