Meet Josh

An artist. A mentor. A community builder. All words that describe Josh, a multi-media artist whose path to TRANSIT ARTS began with an unexpected reunion — and led him to a place where he could truly create and belong.

  • "I put myself out there a little at a time… and build genuine relationships."

    — Josh, on the impact of CCH

Finding His Community

When Josh's mom recognized TRANSIT ARTS founder Jackie Calderone at an art show, it opened a door Josh didn't know he needed. Stepping beyond his comfort zone, he found a community where he felt seen and supported — and a mentor in Master Artist Richard Duarte Brown who helped him grow. Today, he's an apprentice teaching artist at a local high school, sharing his story with students who see themselves in him. Through TRANSIT ARTS, Josh didn't just find a studio. He found a community. And now he's helping build one for others.

Josh quickly discovered that what mattered most at TRANSIT ARTS wasn't just the space or the supplies — it was the people. He found joy in connecting with other artists, learning from their styles, and celebrating each person's strengths.
