Meet Alayla & Aaliyah

Two little girls. One dedicated family. And a community that met them all with open arms. Alayla and Aaliyah's story is proof that when the right support shows up, families don't just survive — they thrive.

  • "We may look different… but we love the same."

A Different Kind of Family. The Same Kind of Love.

When Alysha Rhodes and Bennie White gained custody of their nieces — Aaliyah, age three and a half, and Alayla, just ten months old — stepping into full-time parenting as an older couple without nearby family felt overwhelming. A referral to Central Community House became a turning point.

Central quickly became more than a program — it became a partner. With support from a dedicated social worker, the family accessed workshops, after-school programs, and summer learning opportunities that strengthened both the girls' development and the family's sense of belonging. "We do not trust our nieces in many spaces," Alysha explains. "But we do trust them with Central."

Alysha is clear about what's made the difference: "These girls are not thriving by accident."

"Beyond structure and enrichment, the girls have found safety and encouragement."
